It's about thriving, even in challenging times
We at Ember are artists, not product suppliers. But we are artists who strongly believe that the human journey is deepened and enlivened through the arts – specifically singing! - and that the human spirit best thrives in the presence of options.
Once enough scientific discovery regarding aerosol in singing, and means of mitigating its spread through specifics of filtration were known, the Ember leadership designed masks specifically designed for the high-filtration needed for safe singing; and Ember singers agreed to strict health protocols for both rehearsal and performance that could allow them to again pursue the Art they so passionately believe is also necessary for health, being both smart and bold!
When we saw, heard, and felt what was possible with these masks, and the protocols we developed, and began receiving so many inquiries about the masks, we knew we would need to share this option with those who wanted it.
Please be patient with us as we seek to meet your interest, hand-making each mask upon order.
A Choir’s journey back to live singing
Ember, the NYC-based semi-professional choral ensemble within the larger Schola Cantorum on Hudson organization, has closely followed the health issues surrounding singing as they emerged from scientific inquiry through the COVID crisis summer of 2020. Though the singers longed for the time when they could make music in person again, there was to be nothing hasty or ill-considered about a move back into live performance. Documented evidence as to what would provided a safe, healthy experience for audience members and singers alike was a non-negotiable!
A significant study released in August of 2020, finally provided solid information about the COVID contagion as relates to the aerosol realities of singing. Out of that, the SingSafe™ Mask was designed. The SingSafe Mask, along with a very strict rehearsal and performance protocol provided the basis upon which the ensemble could, once again, sing together, and sing before a sold-out (socially distanced), extremely enthusiastic audience!
